All of that effort…going to class, learning new skills, building your confidence, giving your all…is not just for internal purposes. You can do more and learn more about yourself and others by competing. It’s not too late to sign up for the North Metro Martial Arts Tournament of Champions scheduled for this Saturday.
As a school, our goal is to have 25 participants to represent CMAC. At Castro Martial Arts Center, we support each other and the efforts of former students. Scott Tasker, the owner and operator of North Metro, is a former student of Chief Master José Castro and was his first black belt. Let’s support the Tournament of Champions is on Saturday, May 21st in Smyrna, Georgia by signing up to be there and compete.
Don’t be confused about registration; we are there to clear up any confusion and Chief Master Castro will be there early to make sure that everything goes well. Everything is set up for student success; everyone will compete according to age and size and rank. The cost is $40 for two divisions: standard two forms and fighting. There are medals to earn and the tournament shirts will be mailed directly to you.
At CMAC, you have a chance to build your repertoire of skills and at tournaments you have the opportunity to test them and see how you can improve. When you challenge yourself and get success at each level, you can get better and move up on the national scene/stage. Our head instructor, Naaman Castro, began challenging himself this year by signing up for more and more tournaments. It has made him realize that there’s a bigger picture makes him work harder and now, he’s doing really well and his Taekwondo has gotten better in the last six months than the last six years.
There is also a fun element to competing; it teaches you how to perform in front of people and rid yourself of stage fright. Being more confident in front of others is a skill that can transfer to better performance in school and in life…ask anyone who has had to do a presentation.
Competition is always exciting because you can set personal goals. It’s about doing your best. There’s a life lesson that comes from competing; whatever you do should cause you to take great pride in the effort and accomplishment. The importance of competing is to try yourself by fire, learn what you can learn, and set goals. You may learn that you’re better than you thought and just need to apply yourself. Risk = reward; competition pushes you to be better and work harder.
Facing your obstacles and overcoming them is a valuable life lesson forged in competition. You learn so much in the process and you learn more about yourself. Competition impacts your work ethic and you can tangibly see the results. There’s so much that you learn from it and there’s camaraderie built with CMAC people and with opponents as you grow with each other.
Don’t sit on the fence and wait for the next tournament to challenge yourself, sign up today and join us at the Tournament of Champions. It’s about your personal best…building your confidence…testing your skill set…seeing what else you can do to be the best version of yourself. We challenge you to sign up and show up!
